Positive: The onsens were really great, especially the partially open-air one. There was lots of availability for the onsens and the whiteboard system they use was super helpful. The staff was incredibly friendly and very helpful; they helped us arrange a taxi when we wanted to go to the snow monkey park and they offered a shuttle to the bus stop when we were checking out.
Negative: The only downside is that it was a little difficult to get there. We tried following the instructions from Google maps but some of the bus information/details weren't correct or were confusing. I don't think that is really the ryokan's fault though; that might be more of a Google problem. Thankfully, we were able to figure it out by asking bus drivers for help and they knew what we were talking about when we said we were trying to go to Ryokan Warabino.
